The Algerian tax authorities will be imposing a new Digital services tax of 9%. The VAT will be charged on e-services that are provided by non-resident providers to Algerian residents.
Algeria is one of the myriads of countries between 2015 and 2020 to introduce a digital services tax in efforts to increase their countries’ revenue.
Any foreign businesses providing the following e-services to Algerian residents will have to register for VAT to remain compliant:
- Downloads or streaming media;
- E-learning;
- E-books;
- Cloud-based software and memory storage;
- Online gambling; and
- Apps.
