Algeria introduces 9% Digital Services VAT

The Algerian tax authorities will be imposing a new Digital services tax of 9%. The VAT will be charged on e-services that are provided by non-resident providers to Algerian residents.

Algeria is one of the myriads of countries between 2015 and 2020 to introduce a digital services tax in efforts to increase their countries’ revenue.

Any foreign businesses providing the following e-services to Algerian residents will have to register for VAT to remain compliant:

  • Downloads or streaming media;
  • E-learning;
  • E-books;
  • Cloud-based software and memory storage;
  • Online gambling; and
  • Apps.

Vatglobal is able to provide assistance to any businesses who may feel that they are exposed to VAT risks in Algeria. You can contact us on or leave your details on our site.
